Three-hundred and sixty-four days after their disputed title bout to shut 2018, junior middleweights Tony Harrison and Jermell Charlo will finally have the rematch that helped spawn one among this year’s most explosive rivalries.
Harrison (28-2, 21 KOs), who commandeered his WBC boxer title via a unanimous decision that Charlo (32-1, 16 KOs) still protests to the present day, will enter Saturday’s sequel because of the champion inside Toyota Arena in Ontario, California (FOX, 8 p.m. ET).
The rematch was alleged to have taken place in June but Harrison, the 29-year-old native of Detroit, pulled out with an ankle injury. Charlo’s subsequent suspicion on whether Harrison was telling the reality helped take this heated feud to a completely new level.
The passionate Charlo, who knocked out late replacement Jorge Cota in quick order in June, has been at Harrison’s throat at every turn, including a colorful November news conference in l. a. and on the set of Fox’s “PBC: Face to Face,” which saw both fighters got to be separated once the cameras were turned off.
“[Saturday] can’t come any faster. I can not wait until the planet understands the reality about Mr. Harrison,” Charlo told CBS Sports’ “State of Combat” podcast on Monday. “He’s a fraud. He manipulated the system. He ain’t the important champ and that I am. I’m the important champ.
“The [first] fight was easy and that I felt like I won it. I still desire I won it and therefore the NY judges didn’t accept as true with that so I even have to return out and obtain another opportunity.”
Charlo, a 29-year-old Houston native, appeared on the verge of crossover and pound-for-pound stardom when he met Harrison inside the Barclays Center in Brooklyn last December. His emotional reaction to the defeat drew immediate criticism from Harrison and commenced to create the inspiration for the rematch.
“There isn’t a drop of affection in my heart for him,” Harrison told CBS Sports. “There may be a lot of animosity and animosity. there are just one thanks to settling that and that is to fight.”
If the promotion before their originally scheduled rematch in June wasn’t explosive enough, Harrison coitus interruptus shortly after only enraged Charlo to new levels. the dual brother of current WBC middleweight champion Jermall Charlo began to publicly accuse Harrison of everything from being scared to have been knocked out by sparring partners as a reason for his decision.
“He probably already had it preset in his mind that he was getting to find how to urge out of this fight and he did,” Charlo said. “He let his people down and he didn’t roll in the hay the proper way. He wasn’t injured. We are all boxers and that we all undergo things. this is often wear and tear sport. It puts tons on our minds and bodies. Maybe the littlest excuse that he could’ve used, he used it. that is what got him out of the fight.

“I haven’t any respect for him, for the move that he pulled. Any man who pulls out of a fight and talks all this talk with all that disrespect, I’m getting to allow you to in on something. Tony faked that injury. He faked that injury and you all will see for yourself why I say that.”
Harrison, who has rebounded nicely from stoppage defeats to Willie Nelson and Jarrett Hurd earlier in his career, has used Charlo’s accusation of faking the injury as fuel to aim to win the mental battle before the rematch.
“I faked it. I’m telling you exactly what he said, that I faked it,” Harrison said. “We got to make sort of a Char-ho board and put Jermell on each end of the block because I’m living in his land. I’m living in his head and therefore the better part on behalf of me is him trying to seek out a reason to mention the items he’s saying. I’m believing it because it’s all me playing a mind game. Boxing is mental and that I am living in his head. I’m from Detroit, I’m not good at faking anything. Faking are some things I would not be doing.
It’s because Harrison already believes he has won the mental battle that he feels the rematch is going to be even easier, despite Charlo having predicted a knockout win.
“I’m the foremost dangerous guy within the division,” Harrison said. “I’m 6-foot-1, super-fast, strong and that I just carry all the attributes of a man you don’t need to fight. I can roll in the hay all. I can box, I can brawl, I can come to the fore and repel my back foot. I’m super tough mentally and there ain’t no quit in me. I’ve got all the attributes to point out why I’m the simplest within the division.
“I’ve got him over the sting and riled up and knowing he doesn’t need to fight me in the real world. Now it’s almost capitalizing. I’m getting to put a touch more pressure and combinations together. I make him fight my fight. I make him fight at the pace I would like. That’s my best attribute. I’m the puppet master and that I control you.”
This card also features the return of heavyweight prospect Efe Ajagba when he battles Iago Kiladze of Georgia. Ajagba is coming off a but stellar showing in July when he scored a unanimous decision convert Ali Eren Demirezen. it had been the primary fight of his pro career to succeed in the ultimate bell.

THE LOWDOWN
Tony Harrison Vs Jermell Charlo
TONY HARRISON
- Harrison had to withdraw from the originally scheduled rematch in June due to injury. So, he has not fought for a year since that unanimous decision win over Charlo to claim the WBC super welterweight title.
- Harrison is a powerful fighter and used his three and a half inch reach advantage very effectively in the first fight and fought more calculatedly - sticking behind his jab whilst remaining illusive and avoiding the power shots.
- Harrison has only had two title fights in his career. He lost his first one back in 2017 after getting finished by Jarrett Hurd for the vacant IBF super welterweight title but after beating Charlo last year, he will be making his first defence.
Charlo Vs Harrison 1
JERMELL CHARLO
- Charlo lost his WBC title a year ago and after Harrison pulled out of the rematch in June Charlo remained on the card as Jorge Cota stepped up as a replacement. He violently knocked Cota out in the third round to get back in the win column and remain active.
- Harrison only has a 50% knockout ratio but he has dangerous knockout power. His loss to Harrison is also the only blemish on his record which was highly disputed, with many believing Charlo did enough to earn the decision.
- Charlo is the identical twin brother of Jermall who is coming off a TKO last week over Dennis Hogan to retain his WBC middleweight title.
THE PREDICTION
Charlo Vs Harrison 2 Odds Today
This is likely to be similar to their first encounter. Charlo is going to look to be the aggressor but may keep more in reserve to finish stronger. Harrison has the speed to land the jab consistently again, but Charlo is expected to come in fully prepared to swing the points in his favour this time.
